The Magi: Memories
Part
8
Departure
(Henry is sitting on a low roof, looking at the mountain
through a spyglass. He sighs and looks lower. The party is walking out of the
forest, but still a good ways from the town. Henry gasps and jumps from the
roof. He runs into the elder’s house. The elder and random extras are talking
inside.)
Henry: They
made it! They got her back. < Azriel
& Co. kidnapped Henry’s little sister, I will write this in later>
Elder: What
are you waiting for? Get the horses.
Henry: Oh yeah.
(leaves)
Elder:
(looks to the extras) Go with him, they may be injured.
(Everyone runs out the door after Henry. Kain is carrying
the girl)
Elder: I’m
getting too old for this… (gasps and sits up) I almost
forgot! (gets up and walks towards the door.)
(cut to Henry and group riding
their horses to Kain and party. Dusk)
Henry:
Having fun?
Kain: The
weather was so nice we decided to go for a stroll. (steps
in front of the others) I believe this belongs to you.
Henry:
Sandra, you’re alive! (jumps off the horse)
(Henry runs up to Bruce, who hands Sandra to him. She opens
her eyes and looks at him)
Sandra:
What…? Henry? What’re you doing?
Henry: It’s
time to go home, sis.
Sandra:
That’s good... So tired…
Henry: Go to
sleep, everything’s ok.
Sandra: I love
you Henry. (falls asleep)
Henry: I
know. How much did she see?
Kain: She
was asleep the whole time. I don’t think she knows what happened.
Henry:
(tears coming up) Thank you.
Gabriella:
Are we going to stand in a field all night, or are we going to get drunk?
Spike/Kain:
Drunk.
Henry: Then
why are we hanging around here? Let’s go!
(party gets on extra horses. Kain
and Nanesse share a horse, as do Spike and Gabriella. Aerial
view of them riding the horses back towards the town, but not too quickly.
The sun begins to set as the town begins to lighten in the middle. The party
reaches the town. The townspeople are waiting at the edge of town, holding a
sign that says “Welcome back.” The noise makes Sandra wake up.)
Sandra:
(rubs eyes) What’s going on?
Henry: Looks
like a party.
Sandra: A
party? Why?
Nanesse:
It’s a surprise party for you. (smiles)
Sandra:
(eyes light up) Really?
Kain:
(smiles and nods) Yep.
Sandra: Wow!
(a bunch of people including the
elder come up to the party. They help Nanesse and Gabriella off the horses)
Elder: We
weren’t sure you would make it back.
Kain: We
almost didn’t.
Nanesse:
Yeah! Cuz there was this guy, and he had-
Elder: First
we treat your wounds, then you can tell us the story.
Gabriella:
Then we drink, right?
Elder: Of
course, tonight we celebrate!
(Everyone cheers. They take party into a building. Dusk
turns to night. A bonfire is lit at the edge of town. Everyone comes outside
and starts the party. Everyone in town
but Bruce is in the square partying. Kain/Nanesse/Gabriella/Spike are all bandaged up. Nanesse, arm in a sling, stands outside
the
Nanesse: Mr.
Bruce!
Bruce:
(looks down) What?
Nanesse: Aren’t
you coming?
Bruce: No.
Nanesse: Can
I borrow your flute then?
Bruce: Fine,
whatever. (throws it at her and walks back into the
room)
Nanesse:
(catches it with her free hand) Yay! Thank you!
(Nanesse runs back to Kain and talks to him. The party is
really getting going. Gabriella and Spike recant the battles on the mountain.
Kain and Nanesse talk to Henry and Katherine. Somebody hands Nanesse an
alcoholic beverage, but Kain takes it and gives her water. A band strikes up
and everyone starts dancing. Kain and Nanesse try their best despite the
injuries. Gabriella and Spike try to dance, but prove themselves too drunk.
After the dancing is done everyone sits around the bonfire and sings a jaunty
tune. Nanesse plays Bruce’s flute. The party slows down as people trickle back
into their houses for bed. Kain and Nanesse are trying to get Spike to wake up
while Gabriella wanders back to the inn. Bruce is leaving)
Gabriella:
Where do you think you’re going?
Bruce:
Leaving.
Gabriella:
Why weren’t you at the party? Too good for your friends?
Bruce: What
friends?
Gabriella:
Talking back eh? I’ll show you! (takes a swing at him)
Bruce:
(catches her arm and squeezes) Don’t touch me. (lets go and walks away)
Gabriella: Yeesh. (rubs her arm) What a
grump.
(Gabriella wanders into the inn. Kain and Nanesse help Spike
inside also. Night turns to day. Spike and Gabriella are sitting at the table
downstairs, very hung over. Gabriella is playing with her food while Spike
sticks a raw egg into his drink. From upstairs we here Nanesse yell “Morning!”
and the thumps her landing on Kain and both of them hitting the floor. Spike
rubs his head then downs the drink. Nanesse walks down the stairs and Kain
stumbles down after her)
Kain: One
morning, all I ask for is one morning. But noooo… (reaches the table)
Good morning. Is everyone here?
Nanesse: No,
Brucey’s not.
Kain: His
stuff wasn’t in the room.
Gabriella:
He left during the party. I think he went back to Jad.
Spike: Good,
the last thing I need right now is that half-wit.
Kain: So
Bruce went home. Nanesse and I will probably go back to Solace. What about you
two?
Gabriella:
The people from Clearance owe me for a job I did for them.
Spike: I
don’t have anywhere to go.
Kain: Then
why don’t you go with her? You don’t have anything better to do, and it will be
safer that way.
Gabriella: I
don’t have a problem with that.
Spike: I
suppose I don’t either.
Kain: Then
it’s settled.
Nanesse:
See, now you do have a strong man to
take care of you. (get’s hit
with a muffin) Hey!
(The innkeeper comes out of the kitchen)
Keeper: I’m
sorry for eavesdropping, but will you be leaving us today?
Kain: Yes,
as soon as the room stops spinning.
Keeper: I
see. We have prepared some provisions for your trip, as thanks for all you’ve
done for us. (whistles)
(several cooks come out with lots
of rapped up food, party is shocked)
Gabriella:
(gasps) How can we possibly carry that much?
Keeper: Ah
yes, that reminds me. Henry was in here looking for you this morning. I believe
he’s at the Elder’s house. Please meet with him before you leave.
Kain: Fine…
Let’s get this over with so we can get out of here. (looks
to Keeper) No offense.
Keeper:
(shrugs) None taken.
Nanesse: Yay! Let’s go!
Spike: Owww… Not so loud.
(on to Elder’s house. Henry and
Katherine are talking to him; Sandra is playing with a doll. There’s a knock
from the front door. Henry answers it. Party is wearing old clothes, holding
busted up armor)
Kain: Bruce
left his armor behind. We thought it’d be best if we did the same.
Elder:
That’s not necessary. Please keep them.
Gabriella:
We sort of broke them. (laughs nervously)
(Gabriella and Spike show their busted up armor)
Katherine:
Dear lord, what did you do to them?
Gabriella:
It’s called fighting. Of course that’s nothing you’d know about, little girl.
Katherine:
Little girl!? (steps up to her)
Henry: Calm
down! What’s wrong with you two?
Gabriella:
I’m sorry Henry (smiles at him), we were just having a
little chat. (glowers at Katherine)
Kain: We’d
like to get going soon, if that’s all right with you.
Henry: Oh
yes, I almost forgot. We have something to help you on your way. Follow me,
please.
(Henry leads them back to the stables. Six horses are tied
up to a post on the side)
Henry: These
should get you where you want to go.
Nanesse:
They’re beautiful! (runs up to one)
Gabriella: I
want this one! (goes to another)
(Spike walks up to one on the end and looks it up and down.
Henry pulls Kain aside)
Henry:
Master Kain, I’ve decided something.
Kain: Kain,
and what’s that?
Henry: That
Katherine and I will get married and see the world.
Kain: Does
she know about this?
Henry: Yes,
I proposed to her last night. She said yes.
Kain:
Congratulations.
Henry: And
it’s all thanks to you. You showed me that there’s so much more to the world
than what’s right here. These horses are thanks for all that you’ve done for
us. Please accept them.
Kain: (pats
Henry’s shoulder) You’re a good guy Henry, maybe we’ll
see you again out there.
Henry: I
hope so.
Kain: (to
the group) Let’s get these babies loaded up and head
out!
(Katherine comes out to join Henry and holds his hand. Kain
picks a horse and they all take theirs over to the inn. They outfit the horses
with provisions and head to the edge of town. Various townspeople look after
them. The party waves back, except Spike of course. Townspeople wave back)
Gabriella:
Think we’ll ever see each other again.
Kain:
Somehow I don’t doubt it. You ready Nanesse?
Nanesse:
Yep.
Kain: Good
luck.
Spike/Gabriella: You too.
Kain: Now
that we’ve said our goodbyes… Let’s go!
(The whole group takes off towards the forest. At the very
edge they split up and go different directions. Cut to credits)
