The Magi: Memories
Part
6
Nanesse vs Sarin
(Nanesse is in the woods yet again; dusk.)
Nanesse:
Kain? Where are you? I’m so sick of this! (fairy flies
to her) Hi there. Where am I? (listens) Again? Have you seen-
(She’s cut off as an arrow hits the fairy. Nanesse gasps
then pulls out her bow and three arrows. She creeps along, her ears alert with
anticipation. She pulls up against a tree)
Sarin: (from above) Oh! I can’t believe I missed!
Nanesse:
(looking for Sarin) What did
I ever do to you?
Sarin: You were always the elders’ favorite. Nanesse this,
Nanesse that. Nanesse can do no wrong. Well, until now.
Nanesse: I
have no idea what you’re talking about. (creeps away
from the tree)
Sarin: I’ve been ordered to return you.
Nanesse:
(aiming up at the branches) Return me where?
Sarin: Rolante.
Nanesse:
Never heard of it.
Sarin: Home. It’s been decided that you must be punished.
(two arrows hit near Nanesse’s feet as she dives out of the way.)
Nanesse:
(rolls and points her bow up again) Why? What did I do?
Sarin: Look at you. Fraternizing with humans... I’m sure the
elders could have looked past your troublesome Mage friend, but this is an
outrage. Even wearing human clothes… I’m so ashamed.
Nanesse:
Hey! These were a gift! (peeks her head out) And I saw
what you’re wearing. (pulls back as arrows hit the
tree)
Sarin: I know what you’re doing. Making me,
shoot so you can trace my position. I can tell you right now, it’s not
going to work.
Nanesse:
Actually, I just wanted you to waste arrows, but your idea is good too.
Sarin: Damn it, I should have known. You never were too bright.
Nanesse:
This isn’t fair. (shoots arrows into branches)
Sarin: That your aim is terrible?
Nanesse:
That you can say all these things about me, but I don’t remember you at all.
Sarin: Oh yeah, that whole amnesia thing. I probably should have
told the elders about that. Oh well,
slipped my mind.
(Nanesse runs to another tree, arrows follow her. Camera
switches to Sarin up in the tree branches)
Sarin: You dead yet? I get paid either way.
Nanesse: No,
I’m good. I bet you couldn’t hit a horse if it were tied down.
Sarin: (looking for Nanesse, hops to another branch) That’s pretty big talk for someone who can’t find her
opponent. (spots the back of Nanesse’s
armor and smiles) Damnit Nanesse! Stop hiding!
(Sarin hops off the branch and
lands on the ground. She creeps up behind the armor and pulls back an arrow and
points it at her “head.” She steps up closer. Nanesse’s
armor is propped up on branches. Nanesse is on a low branch behind Sarin)
Nanesse: I
win. (pulls back an arrow)
(Sarin freaks out, spinning around
and pushing out her palms. The wind knocks Nanesse off the branch and into a
tree. She falls to her knees and her bow lands about 15 feet away)
Nanesse: Ooowww… No fair! I wasn’t going to hit you!
Sarin: (pulls back 2 arrows) Either way,
I’m taking you home in pieces.
(Sarin lets two arrows fly.
Nanesse pulls two swords from her cape and deflects both arrows.)
Nanesse: You
were really going to hit me! I can’t believe it! That would have gone straight
through my chest. I can’t believe you!
Sarin: Don’t be so melodramatic. It’ll only hurt for a minute. (shoots another arrow)
Nanesse:
(deflects it) Stop that!
Sarin: Since when do carry swords?
Nanesse:
Since the time I ran out of arrows and was nearly eaten by a herald. Kain
taught me how to use them.
Sarin: (whisper) Damn that infernal Mage. You follow him like a
puppy. (shoots
arrow)
Nanesse:
(deflects again) I said, knock it off!
Sarin: I’m not going to tell you again, come home.
Nanesse: And I’m not going to tell you again, I won’t
leave Kain!
Sarin: Why do you stand by him!?
Nanesse:
Because! Because…
(quick flash to 1. young Nanesse
falling off a roof and onto young Kain. 2. falling off
a tree branch and onto Kain. 3. little bit older falls
off something else and onto Kain. 4. little older
Nanesse falls off something and Kain catches her. 5. same
thing somewhere else. 6. Nanesse begins to tip off a ledge; Kain runs full
speed, wallkicks, and dives to catch her.)
Nanesse:
Because he’s always there to catch me.
Sarin: I think I’m gonna be sick. Oh
well, your choice. (Pulls back arrows) I’ll see you in Rolante.
Nanesse: Not
if I see you first.
Sarin: That doesn’t even make sense.
(Nanesse runs towards her bow. Sarin
lets some arrows fly. Nanesse dives. One arrow lacerates her leg, one slices
her arm. Nanesse cuts off the feathered end of the last arrow, but it continues
going into her shoulder, butt goes straight through. This causes her to spin,
but she manages to land, roll, pull out 3 arrows, grab her bow off the ground,
and aim. She shoots one, which hits Sarin’s bow. She
shoots the other two and once, catching Sarin’s
clothes and pinning her to a tree)
Sarin: Damnit Nanesse! Why won’t you
die!
Nanesse: Somebody
hasn’t realized who’s winning.
Sarin: You won’t kill me. You’ve never been able to. You won’t do
it now.
Nanesse: Oh
really?. (sets an arrow)
Sarin: What? You’re bluffing!
Nanesse:
Goodbye Sarin. (pulls the
arrow back and closes one eye)
Sarin: No! You can’t do that!
(Nanesse shoots and Sarin screams.
The arrow hits just above Sarin’s head right before
she passes out.)
Nanesse:
Wow… I really need to work on my aim…
(a light door opens on a tree
nearby. Nanesse looks around.)
Nanesse: Now
what? (notices the door) Oh… Ok then. (limps through)
End
Nanesse Wins
